Club Rules

Triad Sports Car Club relies primarily on the SCCA Solo Rules for detailed classing and safety rules. However, here are some items of particular note when you are attending Triad events.

Spectators and Passengers

  • All event attendees (drivers, passengers, and spectators) must sign the insurance waiver and display a wrist band while they are on site.
  • All drivers must be fully licensed (no permits).
  • Novice drivers are prohibited from having any passengers other than approved instructors.
  • All passengers must be registered for the event either as a driver or as a “ride along” and must be 16 years or older with a full driver’s license.

Car Numbers

Cars must display car number and class designation clearly on both sides. Numbers must be a minimum of 8” (20.5 cm) high with a 1¼” (3.25 cm) stroke. Class letters must be a minimum of 4” (10.25 cm) high with a ¾” (2 cm) stroke. In all cases, the height of the class letters must be between 25% and 75% of the height of the numbers. Stroke width must be at least 10% of the height.

You may make numbers out of any material (vinyl, copy paper, masking tape, magnets) as long as they are large, easily legible at a distance, and contrast brightly with your car’s color (avoid blue painter’s tape on a green car).

Sound Limits

Preventing excessive noise is critical to our ability to retain sites and protect the hearing of participants. We have a 97dB sound limit at all sites. The measurement will be taken at a point where the vehicle is expected to be under load at full throttle. The measuring point will be 50 feet from the edge of the course using a sound meter set to “A” weighting, “Slow” response. The microphone will be 3 to 4 feet above ground level, positioned perpendicular to vehicle direction of travel. The microphone will be away from structures (e.g., buildings) as is practical. Vehicles that violate the 97dB limit will not be permitted to return to TSCC events until they have been modified to comply.

Tech Inspections

Our tech inspections are intended to address the most common safety issues. You are responsible for inspecting and maintaining your own vehicle for competition, but we will be looking for these things at tech:

  • No missing lug nuts.
  • No excessive play in any suspension/hub component.
  • No leaking fluids.
  • Floor Mats must be removed unless they are secured by an OEM clip or hook.
  • No Flex Fans.
  • No steering “spinner” knobs.
  • No loose items in the passenger compartment or trunk.
  • No hub caps or wheel center caps unless the hub caps are secured by the lug nuts.

Club officers including the chief of tech, autocross vice president, and president have the discretion to refuse to let any car run if they deem it is not safe to compete.

Helmets

All drivers and passengers must wear approved helmets. Un-certified motorcycle helmets are not permitted. This graphic illustrates which helmet certifications are valid in TSCC as of the 2024 season.
